so it's been A LONG time since i have posted on here... here are a few pics from the last two months. there have been two birthdays, family visits, trips to the beach, a first haircut, lots of 1 year old curiosity and... mmmm.... probably a lot more...

this is pretty funny because.... Jonah REALLY doesn't like Lucas to touch him OR his things, but in the pic Jonah is in a dead sleep and Lucas is having SO much fun crawling all over hm. Lucas LOVES his big brother.

yes... this IS Jonah.
Nate decided he was going to attempt to cut Jonah's hair, it was getting in his eyes and he was looking pretty scruffy. so they went out on the deck with 3 different tools to get the job done. the haircut was looking pretty good. it was almost finished and Nate was touching up the back with the buzzer and took it a little too far..... so he decided to buzz his whole head! i stopped him mid stroke - told him he couldn't do it THAT short!! so Jonah has a strip in back that is almost totally to the skin. poor guy looks like he just had surgery! he loves the new cut (and he hasn't seen the back :) he says "Papa made my hair fuzzy with the buzzer!" i think he looks like a totally different kid!

and Lucas.... sweet Lucas is 6 months!! he had his first taste of rice cereal and loves the stuff. my content chubby baby has turned into a MOVER. he was scooting at 5 months and today started full on crawling up on his knees. jeez! my boys have energy!

we have been out of town a lot this summer (good thing, cuz summer is NOT in Humboldt these days!) one of our trips was up to Medford to visit the family. my brother and my nephew came out - was SO great to see them. the boys had a good time playing together& was fun for me to see the cousins together. here are a few pics of the week.

Baby Lucas is 4 months today! he must have known because he rolled over from his back to his belly today for the first time - he is so old! this baby is pure delight - so full of sweetness and smiles. can't get enough of him. oh... and he is a thumb sucker. nothing like a good self-soother!

we made our first out of town trip with our family of 4... it's amazing how packed our car was! we made a visit to Medford for Easter. while we were there we met up at the Discovery Museum with our friend Amanda and her sweet kids - they had fun!

we met our dear friend Lily in Crescent City for the day....and it was raining! there is not a whole lot to do in Crescent City on a rainy day so we opted for a tour of Ocean World. we had to get the classic pic in the sharks mouth. it was a good day with an old friend - thanks for the visit Lily!

Lucas is 1 month old today & it is also the day that his umbilical cord FINALLY fell off! little Lucas will get a real bath. he is such a sweet & laid back baby. we couldn't be more thankful for our boys.

so Jonah has been coming to my midwife appointments with me and yesterday he was laying on the chair at dinner and Nate asked him what he was doing, this was his response....

savoring some family time as baby #2 is getting ready to arrive. Jonah is coming around to the idea of a baby brother, he will actually touch and kiss my belly once in awhile without getting really upset. we are making progress! he still doesn't really like to talk about baby brother, but at least he isn't running to the next room and sitting for 20 minutes with his back to us anymore... so i am optimistic! here are some photos of family time as we know it now....

i am so very behind on posting about this oh so important event! Jonah turned 2! i don't know how it happened, it seems like only a few months ago he turned 1. 2 has proved to be such an amazing time for us. everyday i am amazed at what comes out of my boy's mouth.... i gotta be REAL careful about what i say these days. he is always listening.... or talking. there is a constant stream of commentary about what he is seeing & hearing, as well as what he wants you to do...."right now" or "so bad"!! my boy is so full of life, energy and joy & i am so honored to be his mama.

he had a week long celebration for his birthday, starting with a visit from Grammy and Poppy, then a little celebration with some of his friends & finally a day with our little family. our family day was jam packed with some of Jonah's favorite things..... started with pancakes and steamed milk (which he calls his "caffeine"), followed by a trip to the farmers market with lots of music and dancing. he wanted tacos for lunch - so Rita's it was. next on the agenda was the beach. we went to the jetty and saw the incredible 20 ft. (or something like that) waves that brings out all of Humboldt to witness. it was amazing & Jonah couldn't get enough of the beach that day. we ended the day with a short trip to Arts Alive - more music....surprise surprise! i think our boy loved the day & we loved every ounce of his enthusiasm. happy birthday Jonah!

i feel like it has been so long since i've posted on here! i guess i have some catching up to do...

we got away for a beach weekend ( i guess we live at the beach, but it's always nice to see another spot of beach!) at Dillon Beach with our good friends. we stayed at a beach house within walking distance of a great stretch of beach. the sun even came out to greet us. Jonah, of course, loved every bit of this trip. he adores Auntie Lauren, Uncle Greg, Auntie Kam, and Uncle Jeff and talked about them the whole way home. his favorite part of the trip was surfing - yep, most definitely Nate's son!

Jonah had his first camping trip and LOVED it! what is there not to like, i guess.... he got to run around half naked and dirty the whole time! two of his favorite things to do on the trip were eat sand (of course) and take Buckley the dog for a walk. he wouldn't leave poor Buckley alone & said his name (sounded like buppey) repeatedly. we had a great time with our friends Mike & Steph...we will be sad to lose them to Colorado.

we have been spending a LOT of time outdoors working on starting a garden & trying to tame the jungle we call our backyard. i spend most of the time pulling a weed or two and then running after the munchkin or filling the buckets of water back up so that Jonah can play with them for five seconds and then dump the water all over himself...then he wants to do it all over again! he is enthralled with water (hmmm...i wonder where he got that from?) but we have been having fun and so enjoying being out in the dirt & fresh air!

Jonah is surprising us daily with new antics. it is so fun to watch his development...even if it keeps us on our toes. while i was cooking, Jonah decided to clear out the books from the bookshelf & make himself a little "reading nook"...then he got stuck & wasn't to happy!

Jonah has finally caught the cold with the ever runny, snotty nose... so we have been cooped up in the house since Friday - yes we feel very out of touch with the rest of the outside world. but... i was reminded on one of the blogs i read (yes one of the many blogs my husband reminds me) to savor the little moments, the everyday moments, the sweet little things that bring you joy. that is what my days have been filled with lately.

so one of those sweet moments came when i asked Nate what time it was and Jonah responded by looking at his wrist as if he was wearing a watch... it was hilarious! neither Nate or i have taught him that.... these little ones are like sponges!! guess we need to be careful, we teach without even knowing.

Jonah's Auntie Allyson came to visit! we had an eventful weekend showing Allyson around Humboldt... which consisted of Arcata, Target, the beach... and um...Target! of course! but really we had so much fun. Papa and Jonah had some boy time and the girls escaped to coffee and a bit of shopping. a much needed break for the Mama.

Jonah couldn't get enough of the beach. he ran around in circles exclaiming "oooh! oooh! oooh!" he almost couldn't stand it! every other fist full of sand went straight for the mouth & yes i found sand in his diaper all the next day.

Jonah, Grammy & i went to North Carolina to visit Jonah's Uncle Steve, Aunt Kerry & cousin Connor. that is one long trip! Jonah did great on the airplane despite all of his energy. we brought lots of distractions and snacks. we even resorted to sticking stickers on his face and ours...he was entertained (i think other passengers were as well!)

we had so much fun with the family. we played and played and played! between a 4 year old and a 15 month old...we were pretty tired when we got home!

yes! it was that warm in Crescent City on a January weekend!! we spent the day with good friends Mike & Steph and Greg & Lauren. a glorious day for the beach. Jonah couldn't get enough of the sand. he dug holes, found shells & sticks, rolled around in it & yes ate some. beaches are so much more fun with little explorers. the big boys had some fun of their own and finally got out in the water. it was one great weekend.

we had our annual new years eve visit from our friends Rob & Rachel. the rain didn't keep us from tromping through the woods for a new years eve hike. grass was vividly green, trees tall and majestic, mushrooms grew on tree limbs (who knew!), a sweet boy slept peacefully on Papa, and the adventure was rejuvenating. can you beleive it's 2009?!!!

we had a wonderful mellow Christmas this year at our house. it was so fun being in our own home with our small family and Grammy and Poppy. i guess we kinda had a white Christmas...it was hail, but Jonah thought it was the greatest nonetheless. one of Jonah's favorite parts of Christmas was immediately standing on the present boxes after he tore the paper off...
he also loves his couch which he shares with Georgie... wishing you all a very merry & late Christmas!

we spent Thanksgiving day at Jonah's Great Grams & Gramps house along with Grammy, Poppy, Uncle Don & Aunt Sandy. Jonah had a fantastic time playing out in the dirt & disturbing the chickens. he went crazy with all the open space to run around and all the rocks and plants to explore. to my surprise he did not want anything to do with our delicious Thanksgiving feast! he did look pretty cute in his makeshift high chair you'll see below. we had a wonderful time with our loved ones.

i think Jonah knows it's his birthday...he was very excited about waffles this morning

my sweet baby Jonah is 1!

so much to say and so little time...
last year on this day at 8:02 Jonah decided to bless this world with his presence.
words don't capture the joy this boy brings. here is a little about my sweet boy at 1:

*he loves to give wet slobbery open mouthed kisses...alot!
*blows kisses, but forgets to actually blow them
*claps all the time, even in his sleep
*his favorite toy is a handle of any kind
*would rather climb on things than play or read
*runs (kind of...)
*loves to be thrown in the air - Papa does that best
*loves to be tickled in the ribs & has the best gut laugh when you do
*has the softest skin i've ever felt
*learned the sign for "more"....but has decided not to use it
*gives Mama the best hugs

i could go on and on... but i think i will do that elsewhere...maybe in a letter to my boy.

thank you, to all you who are in our "village", all who have participated in our boy's first year of life. the saying is so true, we have needed you and are so blessed by you.

fall in medford

Jonah and i ventured up to Medford to meet our friends Amanda & Piper for a full Fall weekend. we visited "The Farm", the park and a Harvest Party. it was so much fun watching the kids together. Piper graciously shared her toys with Jonah & he was quite mesmerized with her.

Jonah discovered leaves in Lithia Park. he couldn't get enough of the bright, crunchy wonderment. i couldn't get enough of it either! Fall in Ashland is amazing...i don't think i have ever appreciated the colors of Fall as much as i have this year. maybe it is my son's curiosity of even the littlest of creation...

Piper and Jonah had a great time at "The Farm". it consisted of about 20 different animals in a petting yard...llamas, pigs, goats, sheep, wallabees.....it was exciting.

it got even more exciting... i accidentally let some goats know that i had some feed, one got really excited about it and then all 20 of the animals came charging over to join in the goats excitement. i was slightly embarassed about my reaction...they are petting zoo animals for goodness sake!!!

Jonah discovered stairs at Grammy & Poppy's house and he couldn't get enough of them! in fact, i wish we had some stairs at our house....it would be hours of entertainment.

here is more evidence that Jonah loves to carry heavy things around. he walks better when he is carrying something, the heavier the better!

we made a trip up to Medford this last weekend. Jonah needed to see Grammy & Poppy...it had been a while! (i also needed a fix of warmth and sunshine!) it was a full weekend of family & friends. Jonah's Great Grams & Gramps came up to see us too...

this past weekend we went to Jim & Stefanie Savage's wedding at the Straw House in Big Flat...gorgeous! sunny and beautiful. for those of you who have never been to the Straw House, it is this cute coffee shop / cafe right on the Trinity River - you really should go. the wedding was beautiful. Jonah did great. i was afraid he would have a running commentary throughout the ceremony, but he only made a couple additions. i don't think we have ever fed him so many rice cakes! but it kept him occupied through the vows. he even behaved himself while dancing with the Bride. he is such a social boy!

to those of you who may not know, Nate and i welcomed our sweet baby Jonah to the world last November. he is now 10 months old & i have no idea where all that time went! so the majority of this blog will be about Jonah... he is a very entertaining boy.

the newest excitement in Jonah's world is the walking phase. just the other day he took a few steps on his own & everyday since the distance gets a little longer. here is today's longest journey...

this is a short first post because we just sent out an e-mail about our eventful summer. we'll be sure to keep you posted on the happenings in our lives heading into Fall & would love to hear from all of you!
